Recreational Class Information 

Dress Code & Shoes 

  • ​Our recreational classes follow the school year calendar. Classes begin on September 9 and run weekly through May 21. Each class will meet once a week on their scheduled evening. Our calendar is based off 30 weeks and our tuition is divided by 9 months.

  • Dancers entering Preschool through Kindergarten are eligible for our combination classes, which explore Ballet, Tap and Creative Movement. Students will have the chance to develop basic dance skills by participating in social, physical and creative activities, all in a fun and enriching environment! Dancers in these classes will perform both a Ballet & Tap dance at our end of the year recital.

  • Dancers entering 1st Grade are eligible for our Ballet, Jazz and Tap combination classes. These classes focus on further developing skills in these three styles of dance while also working on building strength and flexibility.  Dancers in these classes will perform a Ballet, Jazz & Tap dance at our end of the year recital.

  • Dancers entering 2nd-5th Grade are eligible for any of our 2nd-5th grade classes that correspond with their grade. We have a variety of styles available: Ballet, Hip Hop, Jazz, Kick, Lyrical, Musical Theater & Tap. Classes are offered in a variety of combinations. Dancers will perform each style of dance that is listed for their combination class in our end of year recital. 

  • ​Dancers entering 6th-12th Grade are eligible for any of our 6th-12th grade classes that correspond with their grade. We have a variety of styles available: Ballet, Hip Hop, Jazz, Lyrical & Tap.

  • Females in Preschool through Kindergarten must wear the pink SMDA leotard, pink tights and a pink tutu, available for purchase at the studio.​
  • 1st - 5th grade combo classes are required to wear black Leotard, any color tights & any color shorts with appropriate shoes for the class. 
  • 6th grade & older are required to wear either a black tank top and Leggings or black leotard, any color tights and any color shorts.
  • Males are required to athletic tshirt & shorts/pants.  
  • All dancers must wear required shoes, specific to each class. Shoes are available at the studio for purchase.
  • Hair must be pulled back and secure for class. Hair for ballet must be secured in a bun.
  • Shoes are available for purchase at SMDA's Front Desk and our Open Houses. 

Show Fee & Performance Opportunities 

Show Fee: 

  • Each Recreational Class will have a Show Fee associated with the class. The Show Fee is paid per dancer. The Show Fee includes their costume/costumes, performance tights, costume accessories and a recital t-shirt. Show Fee is due the middle of October. 

  • Preschool & Kindergarten class - Show Fee is $115 - 1 costume

  • 1st Grade class - Show Fee $200 - 2 costumes

  • 2nd-12th Grade class with 2 or less styles of dance - Show Fee $115 - 1 costume

  • 2nd-12th Grade class with 3 or more styles of dance - Show Fee $200 - 2 costumes

Performance Opportunities: 

  • Each Recreational Class will perform in our end of they year recital. They will perform each style of dance that is included in their class description. 

  • Preschool - 5th Grade Classes will perform 1 style of dance in our Winter Show in late February/early March.
